The Accidental Beauty of "My Little Gif Sounds"

this is a video i find captivating for a few reasons, the biggest of which being it's kind of just unexpectedly sincere and straightforward? compared to the internet of today it honestly feels like a splash of cold water to the face, it's just "hey isn't this combination kind of funny hehe :)" and that's it. maybe this isn't enough for you to be interested though. like yeah sure, meme culture gets exponentially faster and more dense as times goes on, so what?

well, at exactly 2:13 in the video, we arrive at the gif+audio combination that i personally find the most striking. it's a gif of sweetie belle from the episode "sleepless in ponyville" if you were wondering, and it's paired with the sarah mclachlan classic, "angel".

i find this combination equal parts amusing and genuinely affecting, amusing because angel in particular seems to be one of those songs that early 2010's internet took and made the symbol of humorous melodrama, oddly there are actually a few songs in that category that i can immediately think of off the top of my head, "untitled" by simple plan is one that comes to mind. infact, here's another classic mlp video that uses that exact song!

How could this happen to Fluttershy?

but of course, i also find this genuinely beautiful and striking. it's kind of odd really, it's like it had to pass through a layer of irony to strike at a deeper sincerity. when i watched this for the first time and got to this part it felt like there was a striking amount of attention being placed back on me sitting at my desk, all of a sudden i found myself thinking deeply about how much time has passed since this video came out, and how fundamentally meme culture has changed since then. by complete accident, it ends up expressing the deeply strange mix of emotions you get by rewatching such a video in the modern day.

TL;DR: META-TEXTUAL BEAUTY FOR THE FUCKING WIN. THIS ALWAYS HAPPENS.
